Casting.
To make the piece appear professional and genuine it is crucial;that the right cast members are selected that fit their roles and have the ability to act. We have split the casting process in two, the performance cast and the narrative cast.
Performance cast
This is the easiest of the two as we already had a band in mind to perform their own song. We are using a band from the school, and their own song, called Basement Cat who will perform their song 'What For?'. The band includes a drummer, Ethan; who is obviously in the project crew, Bruce, a guitarist, Callum; the bass player, and front man Jamie, the lead guitarist and singer. All are very familiar with the song as they wrote it and have performed it many times and therefore it will be easier to film as they will make few mistakes and will be able to perform it better generally. I believe that our performance cast is very strong so the performance aspects will certainly be convincing.
Narrative cast
Performing the narrative is a much harder thing as our cast members must deliver realistic performances for the piece to look plausible. We need one main cast member who will appear throughout the narrative aspects. They will be the person 'addicted' to the apples. As the apple addiction is a metaphor for drug addiction we need someone that has a rough look that would be stereotypical of a drug user. As well as this the genre of music, alternative rock, means we need someone that would suit this, so they need to be wearing alternative clothing and have a rough look which you would associate with a fan of this music, as they will feature in some performance/narrative scenes. We have asked our friend Zak, to play this role as he is flexible with timings and would suit the role. We also need an 'apple dealer' (drug dealer) so will try and find someone a bit older and will use codes of dress to make them suit this role. As well as a dealer we need other users, that will be friends of Zak and appear with him, particularly in the woodland scenes where they are sharing apples. Again, they need to look like drug user and fans of alternative rock so they will be dressed similarly to him.
