Narrative production.
To create the narrative for this piece it took many discussions as a trio. Ethan came up with the foundation for the idea so Liam and I helped to develop it to create what we have now, of which we are all very happy with. As the lyrics are quite meaningful we want to focus mainly on narrative rather than performance. Although they will intertwine, it will be a 60-40 split, with there being more narrative elements.
Narrative
This part of the project will focus on one main character. It follows his addiction to apples, a metaphor for drugs. The metaphor is used to remove the dark reality of drug use and to make it therefore seem more humorous and more watchable. It shows him buying them, eating them, being affected by them and eventually dying or passing out to show he has had too many and that they are bad for you. The clear message is to avoid drugs as they are harmful.
Performance
These shots will follow the band as they go from performing in an informal environment, progressing to performing at a gig. They will primarily fit gaps where narrative shots are not relevant or needed. As the song picks up in tempo, the energy and speed of cuts of these shots will match this.
Below is the storyboard Ethan and I created for the music video.
